Who can study at Fontys?

Exchange 4

Our English-taught Bachelor programmes are open to all interested students with the correct qualifications (see below).

Our short term programmes/Advanced Courses are open to students from all of our partner universities, irrespective of the agreement having been signed at a departmental level or at a corporate level. If there is any imbalance in the exchange, or an unexpectedly high number of applicants, it is possible that we will have to limit the number of admissions. If you are interested in becoming an exchange student at Fontys, but your home university and Fontys have not signed an exchange agreement, please contact us (aciinternational@fontys.nl). Together with your home university, we may be able to consider arranging a new agreement. If, however, arranging a new agreement is not possible, a tuition fee will be applicable. Our Advanced Courses programme is not open for students from non-partner universities and students from other Fontys schools/Dutch universities.

  • Entree Level Bachelor Programmes. As a prospective Bachelor's student you must have a diploma of higher secondary education that is equivalent to Dutch standards. In order to be admitted to Fontys University of Applied Sciences students must be eligible for higher education through a diploma of secondary education / high school diploma with good results.
  • English Proficiency. For each Bachelor programme, the minimum level of English required will equate to the level of IELTS 6.0 (International English Language Testing System) or TOEFL 80 (Test of English as a Foreign Language).  For exchange programmes English language proof of the level of IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL 60 is a minimum requirement. A Skype conversation about your motivation to study at Fontys ACI will be part of the application process. During this interview your level of English will be assessed simultaneously. The Skype interview will lead to an advise concerning your application and possibilities at Fontys ACI.

All exchange students are entitled to reside in furnished accommodation of a similar standard and price as that utilised by local students. Fontys ACI offers to help you find accommodation, we work with Student Housing Holland, an organization offering the best accommodation for international students in Tilburg. Typically, this would be in the form of a private room, with bathroom and kitchen facilities to be shared with other students. As universities in The Netherlands do not typically have American-style campuses with student dormitories, your student room would be located off-campus, in the city of Tilburg, always within ‘cycling distance’ of the relevant campus. Rooms will be allotted based on first come first serve basis.

All students hailing from outside the EEA (i.e. the EU states, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland), will require Residence Permits. In addition to Residence Permits, students hailing from countries other than Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Vatican City, United States of America or South Korea will also need Entry Visas. Students may not apply for their own Entry Visas and/or Residence Permits. Fontys will secure these for you. When all deadlines in the application process are met, the Fontys VisaCare team will contact you in a timely fashion and apply for these documents on your behalf, prior to your entrance to The Netherlands. For further information regarding visa procedures, please click here.
